Congregational Meeting

The members of Christ the King Presbyterian Church are called to a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, preceded by a prayer meeting that will start at 6:30p. This meeting will be held virtually.

Business to be conducted at the meeting:

  1. Elect a pastoral search committee* for the purpose of recommending a pastoral candidate for Cambridge

  2. Elect church officers – the slate of candidates to be elected will be shared upon approval by the Session

  3. Share information with the church

Instructions for how to participate in the virtual meeting will be forthcoming.

Congregational Meeting (10/18)

The members of Christ the King Presbyterian Church are called to two upcoming Congregational Meetings.

The first is on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 7:00 PM and will be held virtually. Business to be conducted at the October meeting:
1. Consider the resignation of Rev. Rick Downs as Pastor of Christ the King Presbyterian Church
2. Approve a process for forming a pastoral search committee*
3. Hear more information and ask questions related to placing an interim pastor in Cambridge and the search for a permanent replacement

The second is on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 7:00 PM and will be held virtually. Business to be conducted at the November meeting:
1. Elect a pastoral search committee* for the purpose of recommending a pastoral candidate for Cambridge
2. Elect church officers – the slate of candidates to be elected will be shared upon approval by the Session

Save the Date: All-Church Picnic

The All-Church Picnic is this Saturday, June 9th, from 10am to 3pm at Houghton’s Pond in Milton, MA. Holy Week Services

Tonight is the first of four Holy Week services this week.  You can prepare for each of this week's services by listening to recordings of all of the congregational hymns at ctkcambridge.org/songs:

  • Tonight is Maundy Thursday, March 29, 7:30pm (childcare up to age 3); 
  • Tomorrow is Good Friday, March 30, 7:30pm (childcare up to age 3); 
  • Easter Sunrise, April 1, 6:30am (Hot Breakfast immediately following); 
  • Easter Morning, April 1, 10:00am (no Sunday School or Adult Education Classes; there will be Nursery and Children’s Worship)

Women Together: Bethany Jenkins

Registration has been extended for the talk by Bethany Jenkins.  The women of CTK Boston are invited to her talk on "Hospitality and Hope in a Relationally-Fragmented World" on Saturday, April 7 from 10-11:30am in the church social hall. Bethany works for the Veritas Forum, splitting her time between New York City and Cambridge, and is a regular writer for The Gospel Coalition. Childcare will be available. Ministry to former Christian Scientists

Kathrine Beim-Esche is director of a ministry that is engages former Christian Scientists with the gospel, the Fellowship of Former Christian Scientists. She will be in town this month and has offered us the opportunity to sit in on a Christian Science service with her. Men's Breakfast

A Men’s Breakfast will be held in the social hall on Saturday, February 10, from 8-10am. Come expecting to be challenged, ready to pray and fellowship with other men in our church. Please contact rickdowns@ctkcambridge.org if you would like to help out with the meal.  UPDATE: if anyone is able to stay a little while after the breakfast, volunteers are needed to help assemble a pre-fab shed for the church's snowblower.

Boston Fellows February 17

This Saturday at MIT: Belligerents or Brothers?  Faith and Science Examined.  Science and religion are locked in eternal conflict - or so we are told.  Prof. Ian Hutchinson, professor of nuclear science and engineering at MIT, disagrees.  In a pair of lectures, Prof. Hutchinson will draw on his own experience as a research scientist and from the history of the relationship between science and religion to demonstrate that, far from being opposed to one another, the knowledge we gain from science and faith may complement and benefit one another.  Prof. Hutchinson’s second lecture will explore a case study in cooperation between science and theology from his own work addressing the challenges of sustainable energy.  This free event will be held on February 17 from 10am to 3pm (lunch is provided), at MIT (Building E51, Room 345), and is sponsored by Boston Fellows and RUF.  Space is limited; please RSVP here to reserve your spot!  Contact Nathan Barczi with questions.

Simon Oliver Lecture: Creation, Modernity, and Public Theology

Tonight at 7pm, join us at CTK Cambridge for an evening with Simon Oliver, Professor of Theology and Canon Theologian at Durham, UK, as he discusses questions raised in his new book Creation: A Guide for the Perplexed. Dr. Oliver argues that shifts in the understanding of God, creation, and science that took place in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries have rendered the notion of “creation” unintelligible, and have given rise to scientism - the view that the natural sciences are the only means of accessing truth. Dr. Oliver will explore how a recovery of the doctrine of creation bears relevance for many of today’s cultural concerns.  RSVP here and email Nathan Barczi if you have any questions.  Childcare will be available.

Women Together February 28

There will be a Women Together event next Wednesday on February 28th at 7:30pm.  Join women from the congregation for tea, cookies, and a time of learning about God's work in our lives. We'll be meeting at Rachel Thrasher's house and Leslie Soria will share her testimony of how God has been at work in her family's life through the process of adoption. Youth Overnight

Youth Overnight: Come away for the night! Saturday, March 10- Sunday, March 11 at the Cedar Hill Retreat Center in Duxbury, MA. Hang out with other youth from CTK for a time of fun and fellowship that includes preparing some of our own meals. Saturday night we’ll be joined by youth from our sister church Grace South Shore and hear from Jeff Myers who serves as Youth Director & Pastoral Intern there. On Sunday morning, the group will attend worship at Grace and grab some lunch before heading home. Friends from outside church are welcome to join us. Cost: $25.
