This Saturday at MIT: Belligerents or Brothers? Faith and Science Examined. Science and religion are locked in eternal conflict - or so we are told. Prof. Ian Hutchinson, professor of nuclear science and engineering at MIT, disagrees. In a pair of lectures, Prof. Hutchinson will draw on his own experience as a research scientist and from the history of the relationship between science and religion to demonstrate that, far from being opposed to one another, the knowledge we gain from science and faith may complement and benefit one another. Prof. Hutchinson’s second lecture will explore a case study in cooperation between science and theology from his own work addressing the challenges of sustainable energy. This free event will be held on February 17 from 10am to 3pm (lunch is provided), at MIT (Building E51, Room 345), and is sponsored by Boston Fellows and RUF. Space is limited; please RSVP here to reserve your spot! Contact Nathan Barczi with questions.

Simon Oliver Lecture: Creation, Modernity, and Public Theology
Tonight at 7pm, join us at CTK Cambridge for an evening with Simon Oliver, Professor of Theology and Canon Theologian at Durham, UK, as he discusses questions raised in his new book Creation: A Guide for the Perplexed. Dr. Oliver argues that shifts in the understanding of God, creation, and science that took place in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries have rendered the notion of “creation” unintelligible, and have given rise to scientism - the view that the natural sciences are the only means of accessing truth. Dr. Oliver will explore how a recovery of the doctrine of creation bears relevance for many of today’s cultural concerns. RSVP here and email Nathan Barczi if you have any questions. Childcare will be available.
4th of July BBQ
Join us for CTK’s annual 4th of July BBQ! We’ll meet at the church at 4:30pm on the 4th and will wrap up in time to head down to the river for fireworks. We’ll do the grilling, but ask attendees to please RSVP and bring a side dish, which you can do by visiting bit.ly/CTKJuly4th.

Temporary Nanny Position
Looking for a nanny to care for our 19-month old (adjusted) for 20-25 hours a week, either 2 full work-days (flexible on which days) or weekday half-days from 8am to 1pm. This job will likely be only for the month of January, so this could be ideal for a college or graduate student on college vacation. We live in Somerville, within walking distance of the Porter Sq T station. Alternatively, if you live in Cambridge or Somerville and already have a nanny looking after your infant or toddler, we would be interested in joining your nanny share in January! We would be happy to come to you. Please get in touch with Sarah Tay if you're interested or know of someone who might be!"

CTK Snow Team
It’s coming up on that time of year again… we’re recruiting for the CTK Snow Team. What’s the CTK Snow Team? I’m glad you asked. It’s an elite crew of volunteers who receive emails about opportunities to serve our city by shoveling the sidewalks in front of the church. No prior experience required, just a willingness to receive emails and help out as your schedule permits. If this sounds exciting to you, and you think you should be receiving these emails, please contact laura@ctkcambridge.org.
