Calling All Musicians!

Calling all musicians! Are you interested in sharing your gifts this Advent season? Here are a few ways you can help out! To learn more about any of these opportunities, please email amanda@ctkcambridge.org.

  • Join the rotation of musicians helping to lead music on Sunday mornings.

  • Lend your voice to the Advent A Cappella Choir, which will provide special music during the Sunday service on December 5.

  • Participate in CTK's annual Christmas Concert, which will take place in person and on livestream on Saturday, December 11. We're looking in particular for people to join in a brass ensemble, a string ensemble, and/or a choral ensemble!

Theology Reading Group

Our weekly Theology Reading Group has started up again on Fridays at 4pm. The current book is Calvin's Ladder:A Spiritual Theology of Ascent and Ascension by Dr. Julie Canlis. In this "historically rigorous, theologically rich, lucidly written, and at the same time pastorally engaging book" (Begbie) she explores union with Christ in terms of "full participation in all the operations of the Trinity" (Peterson). It’s a hybrid meeting, so come in person at the church or join us on Zoom. Questions? Contact Leonard Layne at (617) 778-3514 or llayne2@gmail.com.

4th Fridays

Back by popular demand: Fourth Fridays! What’s a Fourth Friday? Why, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with church friends or make new ones while enjoying snacks, drinks, and good conversation. We would especially like to encourage you to bring your neighbors, friends, and/or colleagues. We’ll be meeting this Friday 10/22, starting at 6pm on the Olson's rooftop deck at 20 Corporal McTernan Street. Please RSVP by sending an e-mail to susannevanveluw@gmail.com, so that we know how much food to prepare. A very special warm welcome to those of you who are new to CTK, as we would love to get to know you better. Text Martha (203-605-9898) for directions. Hope to see you there!

Pumpkin Update

The weather was perfect this past Saturday for CTK’s Great Pumpkin Event which was a fun time for all. We’d like to thank the Children’s Ministry Leadership Team (Ryan Grams, Lindsay Hardy and Nicole O’Hern) for working with us to plan the event. We’re also grateful to all who helped on Saturday—setting up, overseeing mini pumpkin decorating, preparing refreshments, judging and cleaning up—thank you! Check out the decorated and carved pumpkins and other event photos or upload your own pictures in this Google album.

Generous Justice

In the Adult education class, we have been pursuing the themes of Micah 6:8 - act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. During the summer, we went through Michael Card's wonderful study on Hesed. (mercy) Morgan Crago has led us through an insightful study of racism in the Presbyterian Church. In our current Adult Ed class, we are using Tim Keller's book Generous Justice to pursue what it means to act justly. In preparation, Pastor Clyde recommends this video from the Bible Project on the meaning of justice in the scriptures as well as this article on critical theory from Tim Keller.
